The poor elephant was living in his tiny closure in Pakistan for nearly 35 years.

Kaavan received plenty of media attention recently. And that’s when countless animal welfare activists, raised awareness for his release. They all wanted him transferred to a location with better conditions.

Despite the poor living conditions surrounding him, Kaavan lived alone at a zoo in Islamabad. And it’s needless to say that the poor creature wasn’t in the best of health.

According to reports, renowned animal rights spokesperson, Martin Bauer, explained how the overweight elephant underwent a series of medical examinations. And only then he was declared fit for travel. But where is the poor fellow going?

Well, reports suggest how Kaavan will most likely end up in Cambodia. And that’s where he’s rumored to find great companionship with better conditions. Bauer explained how he passed his medical examination at the Zoo on Friday. Moreover, that instigated the final phase of preparations for his leave.

In May, Pakistan’s High Court notified officials about his release. At the same time, they also ordered Marghazar Zoo’s closure. And that’s because they felt the drastic living standards were clearly unfit for keeping animals.

Most importantly, he didn’t have any friends nor family members around. And with no sort of companionship whatsoever, you could see things taking a toll.

Rescuing Kaavan turned into the center of media attention in May. Furthermore, hundreds of animal rights enthusiasts came forward for his release. This includes plenty of renowned names from the celebrity world. They all worked hard to lobby towards his relocation. And in the end, all the hard work proved fruitful.

While leading animal rights activists led the pack, you can’t forget the famous superstar and singing sensation Cher. Yes, she stepped forward and appealed to Pakistan’s higher authorities to show mercy on world’s loneliest elephant. And within days of her request, things took a turn for the best.

All the activists came out victorious in the end. Pakistan accepted their plea for help and granted Kaavan mercy indeed. The news spread like wildfire, going viral in seconds. People couldn’t believe how the wild elephant would soon be free from the torture of 35 long years. Without a doubt, it was a celebration indeed.

A delay in actions might turn costly

Meanwhile, Bauer released another statement regarding the significant delay in actions. Here, he described how the rescue efforts came very late. And that’s because two lions died in July when officials attempted to transfer them.

But as far as the world’s loneliest elephant is concerned, it was a whole different picture. Kaavan is all set to leave Pakistan in a few days. And rumors suggest that he’s going to a sanctuary in Cambodia.
