A Texas man who pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend was handed two life sentences on Monday.
41-year-old David Joshua Reed reportedly killed 23-year-old Shelby Duarte, their unborn child, and her new boyfriend Timothy Nelson, 43, after she told him that she was carrying his child but would not leave her new partner.
“You reap what you sow. I will see you in hell,” the chilling message Reed left on Duarte’s phone.
According to reports, Reed killed the couple by ramming his pickup truck filled with propane tanks into her RV trailer.
Duarte’s heartbroken brother, Joseph Eisenhower, screamed in the courtroom saying that Reed should’ve received the death penalty.
“David, you’re a coward and you don’t deserve a plea bargain. You deserve everything that is coming to you,” he shouted in the courtroom.
The devastating incident occurred in Lindale, Smith County, TX in December 9, 2020. Reed reportedly drove his pickup truck into the camper trailer shared by Duarte and her new boyfriend.
Reed confessed that he deliberately crashed into the trailer where the couple were living. He also said that he had loaded his pickup truck’s front seat with propane tanks, hoping that he could also trigger an explosion.
Nelson died on impact while the pregnant woman was airlifted to hospital where she later died from severe injuries.
During the sentencing, Duarte’s grieving brother was almost escorted from the courtroom after he shouted that the killer should’ve been given the death penalty.
“I can’t say what I want, but the hole you put in our family… you’re worthless and evil,” he said. “In these 30 years you got, there’s nothing I can say but I pray you don’t make it out of those walls.”
