Flashback into time
Before we go on and talk about Lisa’s case, we thought it would be interesting to shed some light on ancient facts. While they don’t relate to the first execution of a woman in the US, they certainly stand true for the last one.
According to news agencies, the last woman killed by execution in the country was a lady named Bonnie Heady. She died in a more torturous episode that comprised of a gas chamber. The event also took place in Missouri but it was in 1953. This piece of information came forward from the Death Penalty Information Center.
Meanwhile, the recent US Attorney General explained in his own terms how their crimes were ‘truly heinous murders.’ On the other hand, just last year, President Donald Trump’s administration made a new announcement. They boldly declared how they would soon resume the country’s executions.
Lisa Montgomery- horrors revealed
In the year 2004, Montgomery headed from Kansas towards Bobbie Jo Stinnett’s home in Missouri. And it was only so she could purchase a little puppy. But that was far from the truth.
Once inside the home, she strangled Stinnett, who was eight months into her pregnancy. Eventually, her victim lost complete consciousness. Next, she decided to carry out another major crime. She went towards the kitchen, looking for a sharp knife. Once found, she sliced open Stinnett’s abdomen. On that note, Stinnett regained her consciousness.
The two struggled while fighting each other, but it was Lisa who came out victorious. She strangled Stinnett to death and went on to remove her baby too. After carefully taking it out, she ran away with it, claiming it was her own.
Court reveals the final decision
It was not until 2007 when the jury found Lisa Montgomery guilty of her wrongdoing. Her charges included federal kidnapping, which resulted in death. On that note, the jury unanimously decided upon a death sentence.
As soon as the news made headlines, it was time for Lisa’s lawyers to step in. They told the court that such a sentence wasn’t fair. Their excuse revolved around how Lisa had a troubled childhood. Her beatings affected her brain, leading to damage and mental impairment. Therefore, she wasn’t well. And that’s why they felt that she shouldn’t receive the death sentence.
