The US is reportedly considering forcing 18-year-old women to register for the military.
According to local media reports, the new plan for the shocking military draft has undoubtedly sparked great outrage as well as a debate when it came to the subject of gender equality.
Moreover, the jaw-dropping decision which is being called an amendment towards the budget for the Federal Defence would also mean that anyone that falls between the age groups of 18 and 25 would be liable into making themselves available for fighting in the nation’s future wars.
While there has reportedly not been any military draft approved in the country since the time of the Vietnam War, some experts claim that officials from the Pentagon are also well opposed to the idea of getting on board with this decision.
Last week, the country’s Senate National Defense Act made heads turn as it was approved by the Committee for Armed Services.
Moreover, it will also see the removal of the term ‘male’ being dropped from the Act.
But at the same time, a total of 5 senators from the Republican side made it clear how they disapproved of the idea, standing in full opposition against it.Currently, there are no reports regarding a male draft of any sort that requires young men, it’s a proven fact that they need to register for the country’s selective service system.
If they fail to do so, they are in danger of being penalized with punishments regarding a ban on their financial aid from their respective college schemes.
Meanwhile, Republican Senator Tom Cottom went public with his opposition regarding the matter, adding how he strongly disapproved of the idea.
“It’s no surprise that our country has gone about welcoming women for decades.
However, you certainly can’t force the country’s daughter into a draft that goes against their will,” he went on to add via Twitter.
