British veteran actress Una Stubbs has died aged 84, her family confirmed.
Stubbs died at her home in Edinburgh with her family and had been ill for a few months.
“Mum passed away quietly today with her family around her, in Edinburgh,” a statement from her family said. “We ask for privacy and understanding at this most difficult and sad of times.”
Stubbs’ agent Rebecca Blond also released a statement about the beloved late actress.
“We are desperately sad to have lost not only a wonderful actress, whose screen and stage career, spanning over 50 years, was so extraordinarily varied,” Blond said in a statement.
“From Till Death Us Do Part to Sherlock, as well as memorable performances in the West End, at the Old Vic, Donmar Warehouse, Sheffield Crucible, and National Theatre, but also a wickedly funny, elegant, stylish, graceful, gracious and kind and constant friend.”
“She was also a highly respected and exhibited artist,” she added. “We will miss her enormously and remember her always.”
Stubbs gained popularity after appearing in the movie titled Summer Holiday in 1963 with actor Cliff Richard.
The actress later played Rita Rawlins in the BBC sitcoms titled Till Death Us Do Part and In Sickness and in Health.
Stubbs was also famous for playing Aunt Sally in Worzel Gummidge and Miss Bat in The Worst Witch.
Her resume also featured a whole host of largely popular British shows, including EastEnders, Midsomer Murders, Casualty, Heartbeat, and Keeping Up Appearances.
Stubbs’ last major role saw her play Sherlock Holmes’s landlady, Mrs Hudson, in the BAFTA award-winning television series Sherlock.
RIP Una.
