Twitter was recently called out for suspending a politician from Spain’s account, citing hate speech over his bold remarks about men.
According to local media outlets, the Spanish politician’s account on Twitter was temporarily suspended for nearly 12 hours because he said that men cannot get pregnant. Moreover, the man also went ahead to justify his statements in detail by mentioning how men don’t have any uterus nor do they possess any eggs.
According to the social media giant platform, his statements violated Twitter’s policies regarding hate speech and that’s why they felt the need to teach him a lesson by the temporary suspension.
The politician was reportedly identified as Francisco Jose Contreras who is the deputy of the nation’s Vox Party, which is renowned as being far-right in regards to their policies and statements. But what made the politician burst out and state such terms in the first place?
Well, it has to do with his blunt response to a recent article that he recently shared via social media. It related to the topic of male transgenders who boldly mentioned how they had become a father, after delivering their baby.
The politician released a statement against that very post on the 11th of this month, mentioning how that was impossible and men can’t get pregnant. And before you know it, he goes about releasing another statement on how Twitter has blocked out his account for ‘hate’ speech since they feel he violated their policies.
The politician didn’t shy away from calling out Twitter in absolute fury. “You can see how they are also following in the footsteps of fascist biology.”
But Twitter went on to justify their actions by mentioning how it has zero tolerance for hate speech that goes about threatening, harassing, or even fostering violence against individuals upon the basis of their race, sexual orientation, gender, or disability, and disease.
