It has since also been revealed that Simpkins shot a 15-year-old male student after the two got into a fight. According to the reports and a video showing the confronation, the 15-year-old repeatedly punched Simpkins in the face and threw him on the floor.
After the fight, upset Simpkins allegedly walked up to his backpack and pulled out his .45 caliber gun before shooting the other student several times.
Simpkins later also shot 25-year-old Calvin Pettitt in the back after the English teacher attempted to break up the brawl.
Though the teacher suffered a collapsed lung and broken ribs, he is expected to make a full recovery. As for the 15-year-old student, he remains in critical condition as of this writing.
Following the school shooting, Simpkins’ family defended the “loveable” teenager and insisted he only snapped because he was being bullied.
According to the family, other students picked on the 18-year-old because he wears nice clothes and drives an expensive car.
