A teacher with a disability was punched by a female student in the face in what police suspect was part of the ‘slap a teacher’ challenge on TikTok.
In the TikTok video shared on Wednesday, the 64-year-old teacher at Covington High School in Louisiana is seen sitting at her desk while talking to 18-year-old Larianna Jackson.
The student suddenly punched the woman in the face and hit her many times.
Other students can be heard saying: “B**** she better f***ing not,” as if they already knew about the challenge.
The teacher was rushed to a hospital for injuries sustained in the ‘vicious’ attack, the Covington Police Department said in a statement posted on Facebook.
The female student was arrested and charged with battery of a school teacher. She is currently being held at St. Tammany Parish Jail.
Officers suspect the incident was another copycat of a TikTok challenge called ‘slap a teacher.’
“The Covington Police Department would like to remind everyone that anyone who participates in such a challenge will be booked accordingly,” the statement reads.
“In this post we also attached the video that has been circulating around the internet. This matter is still under investigation and more arrests for forthcoming.”
TikTok then took to Twitter to say that no such trend exists on the app.
“The rumored “slap a teacher” dare is an insult to educators everywhere. And while it is not a trend on TikTok, if at any point it shows up, content will be removed,” the post reads.
However, there has been a list of school challenges circulating on the platform. Many academic institutions were forced to close bathrooms where vandalism often occurred.
According to Daily Mail, it appears TikTok has quickly removed all videos of the ‘slap a teacher’ challenge.
