Just days after US President Biden issued an immediate order for the deployment of troops in Afghanistan to safely evacuate US embassy staff, the Taliban managed to move in on Kabul’s airport today.
Gunshots filled the air as stranded US citizens sat awaiting their evacuation at the war-torn nation’s capital airport in Kabul. The Taliban managed to force their entry, as thousands of mobs stood helpless with panic gripping the air.
On Sunday, the US Embassy in Afghanistan boldly spoke about the nation’s deteriorating situation, keeping in mind security at Kabul.
“There are reports about how the airport is currently under fire,” the alarming report read. “Therefore, we are requesting that all US citizens take shelter in place.”
Meanwhile, the Embassy went on to urge families belonging to the US citizens that they needed to file immediate immigrant visa forms at the earliest possible notice.
Amongst the crowd of panicked staff members is also the US Ambassador named Ross Wilson, who was amongst all of those who gathered together towards the capital city’s airport in Kabul.
Taliban forces reportedly stormed inside when forces from Afghanistan quickly capitulated as forces from the US moved out in a few days.
“People present in Kabul today woke up to the disheartening news regarding how the Taliban had reached the gates, just present outside of Kabul,” explained a CNN correspondent. “There was clear chaos in the streets,” she added.
“It was absolute mayhem as so many people began double parking and then driving down the wrong side of the road. People were just so panicked,” she said. The reporter also explained how so many people waited in fear outside the passport office where long lines just continued on and on.
Last month, Presdient Biden confirmed how he would be pulling out all US troops from the country, despite the fact that the Taliban managed to gain strength. They also violated the different terms written in the withdrawal agreement.
