An 8-month pregnant police officer was killed by Taliban militants in front of her husband and kids in a door-to-door execution, witnesses said.
Banu Negar was executed at her own home in Firozkoh, the capital of central Ghor province, amid increasing violence in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
Negar, who worked in the local prison, was eight months pregnant at the time of the execution on Saturday, Mail Online reports.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujaheed denied the crime and told the BBC that they had no involvement in Negar’s death and that they are investigating it.
“We are aware of the incident and I am confirming that the Taliban have not killed her, our investigation is ongoing,” Mujaheed told BBC.
Mujaheed said that the group has given amnesty for people who worked for the former administration, adding that Negar’s death was caused by ‘personal enmity or something else’.
According to Mail Online, three armed men arrived at Negar’s house and searched it before tying members of her family up and carried out the killing, Mail Online reports.
Since regaining power, the Taliban have been trying to project a more tolerant and modernized image of themselves.
However, a series of incidents of horrendous violence have been reported in Afghanistan under the tyrannical regime.
Reports said that the militants have been seen going door to door hunting former members of the Afghan security forces and Western allies.
Earlier this week, the Taliban attacked Afghan women protesters demanding equal rights as they fired shots into the air and ‘let off tear gas’ during a peaceful demonstration.
While the group has promised a more inclusive government, many Afghan women remain skeptical.
