Stephen Baldwin took to Instagram on Thursday after his brother Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed a female cinematographer on the set of his upcoming film Rust.
The 63-year-old actor accidentally killed Halyna Hutchins, 42, and left director Joel Souza, 48, injured.
Stephen, 55, requested ‘prayers’ on his Instagram page, writing: “Asking for your prayers tonight friends not much can be said other than please pray for all involved in the wake of this tragic accident thank you.”
Stephen also cited Psalm 91 in his caption which reads in part: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
Alec’s eldest daughter, 25-year-old Ireland Baldwin, also took to Instagram and said: “My love and support go to Halnya Hutchins’ family and friends. Sending healing thoughts to Joel Souza. And wishing I could hug my dad extra tight today.”
According to reports, Alec allegedly asked ‘why was I handed a hot gun’ after the heartbreaking incident.
Cinematographer Hutchins, a mother-of-one, died shortly after she was accidentally shot by Baldwin at Bonanza Creek Ranch near the city of Santa Fe.
Director Souza was also left injured and spent several hours in the hospital but was released that same night.
Mike Tristano, a Hollywood armorer with three decades’ experience, said the responsibility for gun safety on set rests with the armorer.
“There should have been blanks in the gun, the on-set armorer’s job is to check that before handing the weapon over,” he said, as per Daily Mail.
“They then make sure that the actor stands on a mark and never points the gun at the crew or cast… the editing makes it seem like they were pointing at their co-actor,” Tristan continued.
“That’s why everyone in the industry is very confused. How this happened is a total mystery at the moment.”
