A spoonful of sugar in Mary Poppins- the history
So how did one of the most famous storybook tales come about in the first place? Jeffrey Sherman is so closely related to the Sherman Brothers, who else could you possibly expect to make a difference?
For those of you who aren’t aware, the Sherman Brothers need no introduction whatsoever. They’re musical giants with greatness across the board. And that’s why we thought it would be nice to dig deep and see what it’s all about. A heads up on how famous this duo actually is, well, here’s a list that’s worth your while.
From the likes of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the Jungle Book and then the Aristocrats- we saw it all. In the same way, now the duo is talking about how the musical came about in the first place.
A personal insight that’s heartwarming
“When I was a young kid, a vaccine came out for polio. Everyone had to take it at school, on a sugar cube. On that note, I went home. Then, Dad asked me how was it. At that moment in time, he was working on the famous Mary Poppins.”
“What I really didn’t know is how Julie Andrews, the star hired to play Mary in the first place didn’t really like the song that my dad and uncle came up with. That song received the title, ‘Through the eyes of love.” Unfortunately, it was rejected but it was also their favorite tune from the movie.
On that note, Walt requested the famous Sherman Brother duo to come up with something more unique and different. Thinking along with the Mary Poppins philosophy, one idea came to mind.
His dad took the idea of the school adding the polio vaccine on a sugar cube. That way, kids would eat it with absolute ease, without noticing a thing. And there you go- a magical piece finally came into being.
