A dedicated soldier has passed away alongside his wife and their young son after the family’s car collided with another vehicle.
27-year-old Army Spc. Luis Taveras from Massachusetts was in a car together with his wife, 30-year-old Lisbeth, and their son, 16-month-old Luis, when the family got involved in a horrific traffic accident.
According to the reports, the crash took place in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, where Taveras’ vehicle collided with a tow truck near the United States Army Garrison-Humphreys.
Following the accident, during which their car allegedly caught fire and exploded, both the soldier of four years and his entire family were pronounced dead.
The driver of the tow truck reportedly suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment after the first responders arrived at the scene.
As Stars and Stripes has since reported, Taveras served as the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command’s equipment repairer and quartermaster.
“No words can accurately express the pain their friends and family are having to confront. We will, as an Army team, move forward in a manner that provides support and assistance to those grieving,” Brig. Gen. Steven Allen said in a statement obtained by Stars and Stripes.
After the deadly crash, the Korean National Police Agency took the reigns of the investigation into their own hands while the U.S. Army began conducting an investigation of their own.
According to the reports, the KNPA is already working on analyzing DNA evidence and footage obtained from an eyewitness.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Taveras family during these challenging times.
