One security staff at Travis Scott’s Astroworld concert was injected in the neck with an unknown substance and passed out, Houston police said.
On Friday, November 5th, eight people have died and many others injured after the strong crowd surged towards the stage at the Astroworld Festival that took place at NRG Park in Houston, Texas.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said in a statement that a member of the security is also believed to have been injured when he was allegedly injected in the neck with an unknown substance and fell unconscious.
On November 6, a day after the concert tragedy, Officer Finner has addressed the reports that an individual was shooting up other people with illegal substances.
“According to the medical staff […] was reaching over to restrain or grab a citizen and he felt a prick in his neck,” Finner told the reporters.
“When he was examined – he went unconscious – they administered Narcan,” Finner said in a statement. “He was revived and the medical staff did notice a prick that was similar to a prick you would get if someone was trying to inject.”
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed the ages of the deceased victims, with one aged 14, another aged 16, two 21-year-olds, two 23-year-olds, and a 27-year-old. The age of the other victim is still unknown.
Meanwhile, Live Nation Entertainment has released a statement on Twitter pledging to support investigations.
“Heartbroken for those lost and impacted at Astroworld last night,” the statement reads. “We will continue working to provide as much information and assistance as possible to the local authorities as they investigate the situation.”
People reported that Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo has ordered an independent investigation into the tragic incident and how it could have been prevented.
At the time of this writing, the investigation is still underway.
