A Victorian school has sparked outrage recently after it made male students apologize to their female classmates for a bizarre reason.
According to recent reports from the media, Brauer College in the Victorian area of Warrnambool instructed all young boys to stand up during the morning assemble and face their fellow female classmates. Moreover, next, the boys were told to say sorry to all the girls as a gesture that was symbolic of the bad behavior of men towards women.
To be more specific, the action was supposed to represent the heinous crimes of rapes that were committed by their gender.
Meanwhile, one 12-year-old student from the crowd was also told to apologize to the girl that was seated, right next to him. The student explained how he felt the need to participate or else he would be termed as a ‘bad person.
After the news went viral, the parents couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Therefore, they immediately lashed out at the Victorian school, demanded an explanation for the incident.
A student named Levi spoke about how he had to say sorry to so many people that he had never met or interacted with. And that’s because he just started college this year. Regarding the incident, Levi spoke about his thoughts regarding the incident.
“I certainly don’t believe it is ok to be sexually assaulted,” the 12-year-old claimed. “I did feel a bit under pressure to get up and perform the deed as instructed.”
On the other, local media outlets spoke about how some girls even burst into tears inside the assembly hall. And that’s because the school had revealed them as victims of sexual assault in front of the entire premises, which caused them immense pain.
Parents like one mum explained how the school’s decision made it appear as if all the boys would turn into perpetrators in the near future.
