Real Madrid’s striker Karim Benzema has been termed guilty in his high-profile blackmail case, sending shock waves around the globe.
According to local media reports, the star footballer has received a one-year suspended jail sentence, alongside a hefty fine comprising of nearly 75,000 Euros, reports confirmed.
Benzema made headlines this morning when his alleged role in the blackmail s*xtape case was confirmed, which is being termed as one of the most recent bombshell ordeals to have rocked the world of professional French football.
The famous striker received his punishment by a judge in the French court of law this morning, leaving fans and followers in shock, anger, and disappointment.
The renowned French football star who earns a basic salary comprising of 1 million British Pounds yearly in Spain was one of the five individuals on trial that was being held in Versailles, reports confirmed.
This was in relation to the 2015 extortion case that involved an alleged sexual attempt regarding an explicit video that had been stolen by Valbuena’s phone, as reported by local media outlets.
The star claimed that he was only making dire attempts at assisting his fellow friend and football star, right after the latter approached him for help in the matter at the French training center in the year 2015.
But the star also spoke about how he only told his friend that he was going to try his level best at finding someone who would be able to assist him in managing the issue and hence tried not to get involved on a personal level.
But when the trial finished last month, many demanded that the star be punished for his role and also be allotted a fine for assisting in the blackmail case.
The exact charges include complicity in a manner that was aimed to blackmail fellow player Mathieu Valbuena.
