38-year-old Laura Castle and her 34-year-old partner Scott Castle have been arrested for killing their 1-year-old baby boy Leiland Corkill in January.
The 1-year-old blue-eyed baby boy Leiland Corkill was taken from his natural mother, Laura Corkill, after two days of his birth and was transferred into the care of Cumbria Social Services. Later, Laura Castle and Scott Castle adopted the baby.
On January 6, paramedics were called at Laura Castle’s place, where an injured baby needed medical assistance.
The baby was taken to the Furness General Hospital with a severe head injury in January. Later he was transferred to the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital so that the child specialists could take care of him. But unfortunately, the baby was declared dead in the hospital on January 7, 2021.
The prospective adoptive parents of little Leiland Corkill are in police custody. They will appear in Barrow-in-Furness Magistrates’ Court soon.
These parents proved to be the worst people on planet earth who had no mercy for their 1-year-old. Although when the baby died, he was under the care of Cumbria County Council but was staying with Laura and Scott.
According to a requirement of the Adoption and Children Act 2002, a child is allowed to live with his/her adoptive parents for some time before an application for an adoption order can be submitted to the council.
When a child is placed with his/her adoptive parents, the parents assume parental responsibility. Still, until an adoption order is issued, the baby remains looked after by the Local Authority.
Guidance about proper parenting should be provided before the acceptance of any request for a child’s adoption. This is the only way by which we can stop cases like these. People should take parenting workshops and follow parents’ advice who are taking good care of their children.
