A mum is going viral after revealing how she used to smoke 15 cigarettes a day, despite being 5 months pregnant.
33-year-old Amy reveals how she simply couldn’t be bothered by strangers who looked down upon her as she huffed and puffed away in public. Thinking that the smoke would do no harm to her unborn child, the soon-to-be mum didn’t have a care in the world.
Despite claiming that she hoped for the best start for her little girl, the mum failed to show just that and her habit got the best of her.
Appearing in a recent documentary titled ‘Misbehaving Mums to Be,’ she spoke about how she simply saw nothing wrong with her actions and how smoking would affect her pregnancy too.
Amy carried with her normal routine, as usual, smoking cigarette after cigarette. Moreover, she explained how her mornings wouldn’t begin till she smoked. Unfortunately, Amy got the support of her loved ones too as they’re all addicted to smoking and can’t find a reason to quit.
After going to the hospital for her first scan, Amy was glad to see her baby was fine and energetic, and kicking. Therefore, she received the affirmation that she needed that smoking wouldn’t do anything to her fetus. However, that was far from the truth.
Doctors and midwives explained to the soon-to-be mum that she was in absolute danger of risking her baby’s life.
Yes, that’s how bad her carbon monoxide levels were. In addition, the medical experts spoke about how smoking during pregnancy leads to effects such as fetal death, cot death, stillbirth, miscarriage, and placental abruption.
Hearing the news scared Amy in the worst manner imaginable. She simply didn’t wish to lose her baby and hence found the determination she needed to quit. During the last four months of pregnancy, she worked hard with experts to join a nicotine replacement program. While the withdrawal wasn’t an easy journey, by any means, it was definitely worth it in the end.
Amy broke down into tears after learning that she had given birth to a healthy baby girl who she almost lost, thanks to her irresponsible behavior. Today, the mum is doing well and couldn’t be more grateful for the precious bundle of joy that she’s blessed with.
