A single mom, Amy Jo Hutchison, has exclaimed about poverty in the country and how people are suffering because of it.
According to the lady, almost 12% US population is poor. The federal poverty line in The United States Of America is $12,760 for a single person and $26,200 for a family of four individuals.
The annual income suggested according to this stat is not acceptable at all. The Trump government has suggested lowering this poverty line which will be devastating for many Americans.
This situation is worse for people living above this poverty line because their expenses are more than their monthly income and still they are referred to as poor.
Some people have to decide between food and medicines because the prices of goods are equal for everyone, but their income is far too low to adjust both. This is the dilemma of more than a million residents of the US.
Amy Jo Hutchison is a resident of West Virginia. She is a single mother and working as a community organizer for West Virginia Healthy Kids and Families. She is living above the poverty line, but her expenses are too much compared to her salary, so she cannot live a comfortable life.
Amy proclaimed during a speech that she knows a single mother who is working at a gas station. The moment her salary exceeded the poverty line, her health insurance was taken away, and then she suffered a lot medically.
The tension to pay the medical bills and the grocery bills collectively made her sick, and now she is medically unfit and trying hard to make both ends meet.
A congressman’s salary is $174,000 a year, which is undoubtedly a handsome amount if you compare it with the salaries of other people living in the US.
Plus a $40,000 is also given to each senator for state office furniture and furnishings, and this amount is more significant than what a lot of people earn in a month. The government needs to do something about it.
