Two people died and at least two more got injured after a plane crashed into homes in a residential area in California.
The tragic incident took place in Santee, some 20 miles north of San Diego, where a twin-engine plane crashed into a residential area near Santana High School on Monday at around 12.15 pm, Fox 5 San Diego confirmed.
As the Cessna C340 crashed into a UPS truck and exploded, two residential homes were set ablaze. At least two people were killed in the accident and at least two more were left injured.
In recordings captured moments before the crash, the air traffic control was heard reaching out to the pilot of the plane saying: “Low altitude alert! Climb immediately!”
The pilot, who was on the way to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, reportedly responded by agreeing to go higher and didn’t appear to be in distress or some kind of emergency.
Recalling the harrowing moment he arrived in the neighborhood, Deputy Fire Chief Justin Matsushita confirmed that the flames overcame two homes in the “brutal scene.”
Speaking out about the incident was also Jim Slaff who told NBC 7 how his neighbors rescued his mother from one of the two burning homes while helping his stepfather evacuate from the garden.
“It’s a war zone. It’s not even a house,” Slaff called the aftermath of the plane crash. The distressed son also revealed that his parents are “obviously shaken up” and that their family dog appears to have died during the incident.
