A woman is suing a catering company for $30,000 after she was left with ‘severe, permanent injuries’ after eating lasagna at a wedding in February.
76-year-old Virginia Taylor-Svoboda was just one of the many wedding guests who were rushed to a hospital after attending the wedding.
It was later discovered that the bride, Danya Svoboda, 42, schemed with the caterer to lace food with cannabis.
31-year-old Joycelyn Bryant of Jocelyn’s Southern Kitchen served pasta, desserts, and bread laced with marijuana to around 70 wedding guests.
Shortly after eating the foods at the reception, people started feeling sick and many were seen throwing up.
Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said that at least eight were rushed to the hospital.
In April, the bride and the caterer were criminally charged with delivering marijuana, tampering with people’s food, and misdemeanor culpable negligence.
Taylor-Svoboda filed a lawsuit on Monday, stating Bryant “knew, or should have known, that allowing the food served [by Joycelyn’s Southern Kitchen] to be laced with marijuana was reasonably likely to cause injuries and damages to wedding guests.”
One of the guests, Melissa Stout, said she traveled from Michigan to attend the wedding. But after having pasta with white sauce, bread and a Caesar salad, she started feeling buzzed.
She “didn’t notice anyone else getting sick as she was on her hands and knees throwing up,” deputies said.
Another guest, Miranda Cady, told Daily Mail: “It all hit everyone pretty instantaneously. We were all fine and then we were all not.”
By the time cops arrived, staff of Bryant’s catering service were fleeing into their cars.
According to the warrant, every guest showed positive results when they were tested for cannabis. None of them knew that their food had been laced with marijuana.
