A 25-year-old woman whose pain during s*x was ignored by doctors who said that her partner simply has big privates just discovered that she has a large ovarian cyst.
Raquel Rodriguez from Minnesota sought medical assistance five years ago because of the pain but she was still experiencing the same problem for years.
At that time, scans revealed that she had an 8cm cyst on her ovary and doctors said that there was nothing to worry about.
But last year, the fluid-filled sac started growing rapidly and it became so big that her friends began asking her if she was expecting.
Rodriguez underwent a two-hour surgery at Memorial Hospital to have the cyst removed. During the procedure, her right fallopian tube and ovary had to be removed as well.
It is not clear what sparked the tumor but she said it may have been caused by sepsis and urinary tract infection that she had in 2017.
Sharing her story on TikTok, the teacher revealed that the cyst grew to 28cm.
Describing the time doctors turned her down for surgery, Rodriguez said she told a male doctor that she was having ‘excruciating pain.’
“He happened to be male and he told me that the pain I was having was probably due to my partner being ‘too big’ and I should have ‘hallower s*x’.”
Other doctors also told her that the pain was probably because of bloating or cramps and that there was nothing to worry about.
Speaking to TODAY, Dr. Taraneh Shirazian – the director of the Fibroid Care center at NYU Langone Health – said that they should’ve operated when the cyst was discovered.
“Mucinous cysts don’t resolve themselves like common cysts which typically come and go with a woman’s menstrual cycle,” she said.
“They either just hang out on the ovary and stay the same size or they can grow — and they grow quite rapidly.”
