57-Year-Old Woman’s Leg AMPUTATED While Walking At Airport After Becoming Trapped In The Machine Of Moving Walkway


A 57-year-old woman needed to have her leg amputated after she got trapped in the machine of a moving walkaway at an international airport in Bangkok.

The mother was at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport when her limb got stuck in the machinery, leaving her with life-changing injuries that required amputation up to her kneecap.

She was reportedly taken to Bumrungrad International Hospital, one of the leading medical facilities in Thailand.

Karant Thanakuljeerapat, the Directoor of Don Mueang International Airport, told reporters: “I would like to convey our deepest sorrow.”

The woman’s son took to Facebook and described the incident as ‘heartbreaking.’ He said that doctors are continuously monitoring his mother for any signs of infection and that she still faces risks of possible complications.

“My mother has continued to express her strength through her face and voice. But deep down we know that her heart is broken since she suddenly lost her leg,” he wrote.

He also said that the family has requested surveillance footage of the incident.

The airport director said that Airports of Thailand, the company that operates airports nationwide, will provide compensation and shoulder all medical expenses.

The incident temporarily stopped the operation of all airport moving walkways for further safety checks.

“The cause of the incident is still under investigation to find the facts. We might need to set up a fact-finding committee with outsiders to join in order to achieve impartiality and transparency,” Karant said.

The director also maintained that the routine maintenance and safety measures were up to standard.

Don Mueang is one of the two international airports in Bangkok. It was previously the main airport until the newer an bigger Suvarnabhumi Airport started operating in 2006.
