A woman went viral after flaunting her hairy armpits and admitting she feels better than ever after not shaving for years.
27-year-old Rosie Hewett from Reading, England, started vaxing at an early age after becoming embarrassed because she was growing more hair than her male classmates.
It wasn’t until the lockdown in 2020 that the young woman realized she didn’t need to continue removing her underarm and leg hair to be happy.
In 2021, Rosie made the brave decision to ditch the razor entirely and she has never looked back since.
“I’ve been a feminist for a long time and when you have feminist goggles you see everything wrong with society,” she admitted.
“Even if they’re the tiniest things, they stack up and keep the patriarchy up. I’ve spent so much time money and been in pain for the sake of being hairless when there is nothing wrong with being hairy.”
Rosie also revealed that the idea that body hair was something “to be afraid of” was reinforced in her when a relative got her a laser hair removal package as a gift.
“It reinforced the idea that body hair is something to be afraid of. I used it on my legs and now I look like a zebra as I have patches from where it worked,” she added.
It wasn’t until she saw members of her local rugby team that Rosie decided to give hair growing a try and see how it works for her.
“It gave me the strength to commit to it. I started following hairy models who looked amazing with their armpits out and their bikini lines,” she continued.
“There was no plan to become a feral woman – I just thought I’m going to stop shaving and see how it goes. It was exposure therapy – I did the thing that scared me.”
The 27-year-old added: “Because of my experiences in school I expected people to see it and say, ‘you are disgusting, go back inside and shave.’ Of course, I didn’t get that.
“I’ve had some comments and looks, I know people find it weird, but I haven’t had many negative experiences. If someone confronts me about it, most of the time I say I don’t want to talk about it as I don’t need to explain my body to anyone.”
Concluding her message to the world, Rosie insisted it is possible to be feminine and hairy at the same time.
She also said she now feels closer to herself as she urged other women to do what they want whether it’s shaving or ditching the razors for good.
