A woman was left horrified after realizing that her unconventional friend vomited all over her apartment and trashed the place.
41-year-old Hayley Binnington from Sussex, UK, became best friends with a seagull she named Bernie after the bird first visited her apartment back in 2020 during the lockdown.
While the two quickly forged a bond, their unusual relationship hasn’t been free of bumps and obstacles that nearly landed the woman in the hospital.
As Hayley explained, she recently heard a loud noise coming from her apartment while she was sitting on the balcony.
After getting back inside, she noticed Bernie was trashing the place after vomiting all over. During her attempt to pick up the bird, the 41-year-old got bitten on the nose and was left with a big bleeding cut.
To make matters worse, Bernie knocked off one of her veneers which she was forced to glue back while awaiting her dentist appointment.
Explaining her ordeal on social media, the bird lover said: “I knew what it was [the noise] straight away – it’s happened loads of times. I just think it’s funny. I’m a pretty chilled out person – if I was any more chilled, I’d be in a coma. I really just don’t care.
“Because he was in my hand, I decided to give him a cuddle before I let him go, but he pecked me. I think he was annoyed because he wanted the [potato] wedges.
“He bit my nose; I threw him out the window and suddenly my veneer was in my mouth! I was like, ‘Oh no, what’s happened?’”
While Bernie was kicked out of the apartment, the eviction didn’t last long. As Hayley added, the bird returned as if nothing had happened just five seconds later and the two have since made up and resumed their friendship.
“He really, really hurt my nose. I’ve got a cut. I’ve got to keep putting cream on and making sure it is cleaned properly,” she said of her nose injury.
“He cut all the way from one side, underneath and inside the nose, as well as down the middle and on the other side. So, I’ve got this snip on my nose.. It’s all scabby and bloody. I’m fine though, it’ll go away.”
According to Hayley, she’s been friends with Bernie for years even though she was previously fined for feeding birds at her apartment complex.
“I’m his friend. I think he pretends to be my friend because he wants some food – but I think he loves me really,” she concluded.
