A wife is appealing for help after the tattoo her 50-year-old husband got in Bali broke out in painful and extremely itchy bumps.
Leanne Stewart and her husband decided to get tattoos on the last day of their Bali trip and it wasn’t until they returned to Australia that the man’s tattoo started to become itchy.
Stewart said she also got a tattoo at the same time and same place and they both followed the advice to apply antiseptic cream to prevent an infection.
Stewart said that the bumps on her husband’s tattoo became so itchy it started to cause pain.
A doctor prescribed steroid cream and antibiotic but the problem still persisted.
Taking to Facebook, the wife wrote: “Apparently it’s a reaction to the ink but he has tried antibiotics [and] steroid cream but nothing has helped.
“Has this happened to anyone else and what did you use if you did?”
Some people shared how they also had similar experiences with getting tattoos in Bali.
“This happened to me too! Was so itchy! I was on antibiotics at the time so I think it helped to get rid of it,” one user commented.
“I also took antihistamines and used a steroid cream. Took a good 2-3 months for it to clear up properly,” another wrote.
“I get this from time to time on my tattoos, also from Bali. Just every once in a while it will raise and get all those bumps throughout them all,” a third said.
Some claimed that the itchy reaction was caused by ‘cheap ink’ while others said that it might be caused by the climate.
“Mine do the same from Thailand. Ingrown hairs. Sweat follicles with heat,” one person said.
“That’s pretty normal in the heat. Mine still get bumps and they’re 15 years old,” another wrote.
