Travis Kelce has spoken out after the tragic shooting at Kansas City Super Bowl parade that left one person dead and at least 29 others injured.
The shooting occurred inside Union Station after Kelce and his teammates left the stage. Kansas City police chief Stacey Graves confirmed that three suspects had been detained.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed that Chiefs players and staff are safe after the shooting.
“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today,” Kelce said.
“My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”
The Chiefs’ Vice President of Content and Production Robert G. Alberino Jr confirmed that the production crew, flag team and mascots, and game day crew cheer team were all accounted for.
The shooting reportedly happened only seconds after the team, including Patrick Mahomes and Kelce, left the stage.
An hour after the shooting, Super Bowl MVP Mahomes took to social media and wrote: “Praying for Kansas City…”
Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill urged others to join him in a prayer, writing: “Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act.
“Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”
Previous reports revealed that nine of the 29 people who have been injured were children.
One patient was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City in critical condition, said spokesperson Laurel Gifford.
“When you have this many casualties, it’s going to get spread out among a lot of hospitals so that you don’t overwhelm any single ER,” she said.
