A 22-year-old woman has been left ‘permanently and catastrophically disfigured’ after she lost her nose, lips, ears, and most of her face after being mauled by two dogs.
Jacqueline Durand, a student at the University of Texas, was hired by Dr. Justin Bishop and his wife Ashley to watch over their dogs last December 23.
Her lawyers said that when she opened the door to the couple’s home, the two dogs – a pit bull mix-breed and a German Shepherd mix-breed – immediately attacked her.
Durand’s lawyer Chip Brooker said in a statement: “The owner assured Jacqueline that the dogs would be crated.
“But, shortly before her first visit, the owner texted Jacqueline to tell her that she failed to crate the dogs before leaving town. A sign on the front door read ‘Crazy Dogs. Please Don’t Knock or Ring the Bell. Call or Text Instead.”
The lawsuit states that the dogs knocked the student down and mauled her ‘catastrophically,’ eating both of her ears, lips, nose, and most of her face below her eyes.
The dogs also tore all of Durand’s clothes and bit her entire body, leaving her with hundreds of puncture wounds.
Durand is now accusing the couple of negligence for failing to control, secure, train their dogs, and ‘failing to provide a safe environment for their invitees.
She is now seeking a jury trial and compensation of over $1 million.
Durand took to Facebook and thanked people for their well-wishes, writing: “I am so blessed to be surrounded by so much love and support as I go through this hard time in my life.
“Thank you everyone who is supporting and loving me every step of the way since the beginning! I am making good progress every single day that I’m here. Prayers are being answered! Thank you.”
