A university student has revealed how he resorted to eating dog food as he was so broke he couldn’t afford to buy human food.
The guy took to Reddit and explained that he’s been eating dog food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
“Since I’m broke, I have resorted to eating dog food. I only eat the dry dog food. I have never tried the wet ones,” he wrote.
But his diet did not go unseen by his friends who asked why he has so many bags of canine food even though there’s no dog around.
“When one of my other friends visited my room and saw heaps of dog food, he asked me why. I told him it’s for me and he just said ‘what the f***,’” he continued.
After eating dog food for some time, the student has started wondering if his diet would negatively affect his health.
One Reddit user commented: “Pet food is not subject to the same health and safety standards or quality control as human food so I wouldn’t recommend you continue doing this.point 258 |
It probably doesn’t provide much nutritional value but even if this doesn’t bother you the fact that it could contain all kinds of rubbish that isn’t deemed as fit for human consumption should.point 179 | ”point 182 | 1
Another said: “There are ways to eat human food very frugally. Rice and beans can go a long, long way and are going to taste a lot better than dog food and give you a more balanced diet. It’s probably even cheaper than eating puppy chow, not sure. Learn to cook!”
A third added: “So are fresh vegetables, rice, pasta..easy to eat cheaply…we refer our clients to a project that shows them how to cook healthy meals for under $1 a head…and we are talking main meals not snacks.”
