Rihanna has faced backlash online as many people accuse her of honoring Kanye West during her Super Bowl halftime show.
The Umbrella singer performed a medley of her greatest hits at the Super Bowl LVII. She also sang ‘All of the Lights,’ a song from Kim Kardashian’s ex’s 2010 album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ that featured her.
She briefly sang the chorus of the track before switching to a different song.
Even though West did not make a public appearance, many fans were furious that he was included or honored given his recent spate of controversial remarks, including his antisemitic rants.
Speaking to Newsweek, a spokesperson for the Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “Rihanna’s inclusion of a Kanye West song on one of the biggest stages in the world is grossly insensitive.
“It was only a couple of months ago that West said that he wanted to go ‘defcon 3’ on the Jews and denied the Holocaust. This is not a man who deserves such a glamorous platform.”
The spokesperson added: “This is a blunder for Rhianna and her handlers, and they must make clear that they do not wish audiences worldwide to associate her with West and his vile views.”
West received intense backlash at that time after he posted rac*st remarks on Twitter about Jewish people.
Noa Tishby, an author and Israel’s special envoy for fighting antisemitism and delegitimization of Israel, also took to Twitter to call out RiRi and asked: “Did @rihanna have to play a #Kanye song during the #SuperBowl #HalftimeShow?”
But others claimed that this was Rihanna’s way of honoring the rapper without ‘supporting’ him.
During Rihanna’s performance, it was also announced that she was expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky.
