Ray Lewis III, the son of Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis, passed away at the age of 28, only weeks after celebrating his birthday.
The former college football star just celebrated his birthday on June 5.
His grieving brother, Rahsaan Lewis, took to Instagram and shared the heartbreaking news of his death as he described him as ‘a true angel.’
“Really can’t believe I’m evening typings this but RIP big brother,” Rahsaan, who graduated from the University of Kentucky and played on the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team, wrote in an emotional post.
“A true angel. I pray you’re at peace now because I know how much you [were] really hurting. I don’t and I won’t ever have the words man, ’cause this pain right here…” he said. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
He also said that his sibling’s niece will ‘miss you but she will hear about you over and over.’
Rahsaan also asked his brother to watch over them and be their guardian. “I promise, I’ll make you smile and proud,” he went on.
Ray III started his football career as a running back at Lake Mary Prep. In 2013, he joined the Miami Hurricanes at the University of Miami.
H then transferred to Coastal Carolina University but his career came to a stop in 2013 after he was dismissed from the team.
Ray III is survived by his five siblings, sisters Kaitlin Lewis and Diaymon Lewis, and brother Rashaan, Ralin Lewis, and Rayshad Lewis.
Diaymon also wrote: “Brownie, I love [you] will all of my heart. You will always be my first love and truly are the definition of a quintessential brother. To the most genuine and talented person I know, go get your rest baby and I’m glad you’re at peace.
“Fly high baby.”
