JUST IN: ‘You’ Star Penn Badgley, 36, Calls Out Netflix For Causing Fans To ‘Fall In Love With Jeffrey Dahmer’

Penn Badgley has slammed Netflix for causing fans to ‘fall in love’ with serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer even though he also played a murderer on the hit series You.

The 36-year-old actor, who plays Joe Goldberg on Neflix’s You, slammed the ‘weird’ concept of many fans becoming attracted to murderers after watching shows like ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.’

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote the fourth season of You, Badgley said that the responsibility for the phenomenon ‘fell squarely on the shoulders of Netflix.’

“To be fair, with our show, you’re meant to fall in love with (Joe). That’s on us,” he said.

“Ted Bundy? That’s on you. Jeffrey Dahmer? That is on Netflix. That is squarely on the shoulders of Netflix.”

His remarks left many people baffled as Netflix produces the hit series You, which has been credited for reviving Badgley’s acting career.

The Ryan Murphy series Monster, which starred Peters, was hit by a backlash from the victims’ families who claimed they were not informed before the show went into production.

But Murphy claimed he reached out to 20 of the victims’ loved ones before making the Jeffrey Dahmer show but “not a single person responded.”

“We (did) research for a very long time,” he said. “We, over the course of the three-and-a-half years when we were writing it, working on it, we reached out to around 20 of the victims’ families and friends trying to get input, trying to talk to people, and not a single person responded to us in that process.”

In 2019, some viewers of Netflix’s Ted Bundy documentary took to Twitter to say how attractive the infamous serial killer was.

Netflix’s social media manager was alarmed that many people who watched the documentary have focused on Bundy’s appearance instead of his crimes.

“I’ve seen a lot of talk about Ted Bundy’s alleged hotness and would like to gently remind everyone that there are literally THOUSANDS of hot men on the service — almost all of whom are not convicted serial murderers,” the social media manager tweeted.
