Paris Hilton has spoken out about South Park’s portrayal of her and claimed that the ‘sick’ representation had a negative effect on her mental health.
South Park is known for its portrayals of famous people, with most being caricatures. Some of the celebrities they made depictions of include Caitlyn Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Tom Cruise.
But in 2004, they aired an episode depicting the heiress of the Hilton chain hotels, titled ‘Stupid Spoiled W**** Video Playset.’
Hilton’s character is portrayed with wonky eyes. Her dog also took its own life as it seemed to become tired of being petted by the actress.
In her new book Paris: The Memoir, Hilton described the detrimental impact it had on her mental health.
“The poster featured my face and the tagline: ‘Watch Paris die!’ I didn’t mind that marketing approach, and I wasn’t naïve about why they chose it,” she expressed.
“I’m the title character, but they also apply that epithet to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Tara Reid, and all the little girls who were fans, which upset me more than anything ugly they could say about me.”
Hilton went on: “It also upsets me that the episode graphically portrays Tinkerbell [Hilton’s pet dog] being shot and killed. The thought of that made me sick.
“I’ve been involved in some pretty edgy media, but I don’t even know where something like that comes from.”
Hilton is not the only one who spoke out against how the show portrayed them.
Ed Sheeran and Barbara Streisand, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also spoken out against South Park.
