The horrified neighbors of an adopted girl who turned out to be a 22-year-old woman have spoken out about her ‘evil’ and ‘inappropriate’ behavior.
It was in 2019 when Natalia Grace became the subject of a Dr. Phil episode and claimed that her adoptive parents, Kristine and Michael Barnett, had abandoned her at an apartment while she was a child.
She said that she was 6 years old when the couple adopted her in 2010.
But Kristine and Michael claimed that Natalia was not a child but a woman who had threatened to kill them and their biological children.
Shortly after they adopted her, the couple started doubting the girl’s age and in June 2012, a court agreed to legally change Natalia’s birth certificate to show that she was not born in 2003 but 1989.
After that, the couple put their adoptive child in her own apartment.
Many of Natalia’s neighbors at that time have spoken out as part of a documentary that details the unique case.
One neighbor, Andrew Rice, revealed that he “didn’t necessarily think she was a child at first” ad claimed that she told her neighbors she was 26.
He also said that Natalia appeared unkempt and released an ‘unpleasant body odor.’
Sue McCallum, another neighbor, said Kristina would leave groceries for Natalia on the sidewalk and that the girl was on food stamps even though the couple had nice cars.
“Having Natalia live by you, at first it was okay,” McCallum said but this did not last long. “She was really a pest to everybody. Nobody liked her, nobody. They kind of felt sorry for her, but they were leery about her and really didn’t want her around.”
Another neighbor, Toby Miles, said that the adopted ‘child’ displayed worrying behavior around men and boys.
“She would want to know when our son would be home. Not our daughter, our son. That’s when things went from uncomfortable to weird and almost borderline inappropriate. It just got to a point where we felt uncomfortable as parents.”
Another alleged that they saw Natalia playing with a young boy before she ‘undid his pants.’ The child’s father confronted her but did not reveal further details.
After Natalia’s lease ended, it was no longer renewed due to the complaints against her.
