A mother has issued a warning to other parents after she accidentally broke her 2-year-old daughter’s leg.
Amelia Zamora, 33, from California, revealed that she and her daughter Scarlett, 2, went down a playground slide together, with the toddler sitting on her lap.
However, their combined weight caused them to travel down at the slide at a faster speed and Scarlett crashed down, landing on one knee on the concrete floor.
Amelia said that her daughter screamed but it didn’t look broken right away until the area started swelling.
“It wasn’t until we got home that day I spoke to my husband and we decided we’d get it checked out, for our peace of mind,” she continued.
The following day, their daughter was put in a cast from her ribcage to her ankle.
“Day to day was exhausting. She would get frustrated because she couldn’t move and play like she used to,” the heartbroken mom said.
Amelia is now warning other parents to never ride a slide with their kid on their lap.
“After Scarlett broke her leg she was crying so much from the pain,” she expressed. “She couldn’t move or sleep because of it. Once she got the cast on she would ask ‘why do I have to wear this mummy?’ It was heartbreaking. I had such bad mum guilt.
“I blamed myself – I should have told her ‘no’ when she asked to go down the slide with me.”
The mother continued: “I want to warn other parents now – don’t go down the slide with them and don’t think it won’t happen to you. It can, and for me, it did – and I can tell you it’s not worth watching your kid in that much pain.”
