A mother who was left devastated after burying her dog because it had been hit by a vehicle has been reunited with her beloved furry companion.
Codie Hutton broke down in tears when she was told that her springer spaniel named Maisie had been struck by a car after being startled by a firework during the Bonfire Night.
She spent days looking for her dog and even slept in a field where the furry animal was last seen.
But her search ended after she received a call saying a flattened dog had been spotted.
The 26-year-old rushed to where the body was and took the dog home to give her a proper burial in the garden. But only days later, her dog returned home alive!
It turned out that Codie had buried a different dog and Maisie managed to find her way back home without any injuries.
“We were convinced from the tail and markings on the legs that it was her,” Codie shared.
“A microchip couldn’t be found, but we accepted and made peace with her death. I told [my son] Taylen she was a star in doggy heaven now. It was devastating.”
The pooch was so hungry and exhausted and only suffered a mild eye infection during her 17-mile journey.
She was rescued by a “lovely Lady who has set up a group called ‘FIDO for lost dogs’ non profit-voluntary work.
Codie’s son Taylen quickly gave Maisie his Captain America onesie to keep her warm.
“I thought she was gone. I thought I was never going to see her again. I still couldn’t believe it was my Maisie,” Codie added.
She has now created a fundraiser to help Maisie’s rescuers so they could buy more equipment.
