A grieving mother who lost her 10-year-old son after being mauled to death by an XL Bully is making a heartfelt plea to MPs to introduce the Jack Lis Law.
Emma Whitfield, 32, is set to urge MPs to make changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act, saying: “Everything I’m doing, I’m doing for Jack, to stop another Jack from happening.”
It was in November 2021 when her son, Jack Lis, was attacked and killed by a dog, leaving the mother traumatized and devastated.
“I want to make sure that nobody else is ever put in the position of me and my family,” Whitfield continued.
“I know I can’t change what has happened, but there are people who have the power to change the future.
“I am speaking here today to try and be a part of that change.”
Emma has now joined the Mirror, Labour MP Wayne David and the Dog Control Coalition to fight for the Jack Lis Law, which will also introduce harder penalties to stop the killings and maulings.
In a video clip to the All Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group, Emma said: “Identifying Jack by being shown his show was heartbreaking. Being told he didn’t make it was unimaginable.”
Her son suffered horrific injuries after an XL Bully dragged him away during his visit to a friend’s house.
The owners, Amy Salter and Brandon Hayden, were jailed.
“The dog which killed Jack, in the eyes of the law, was only dangerous once it had killed him,” Emma went on as she calls for better regulation and enforcement of breeders.
