Two men tragically died after being struck by knife-wielding roosters during a cockfighting event in India.
For years, cockfighting events have been the subject of controversy as most people agree that making roosters fight each other should not be allowed.
According to the Humane Society, the activity has become illegal in all states across the US.
In India, cockfighting still draws hundreds of people who want to place their bets on the fights despite being banned since 1960.
According to the New Indian Express, two people who attended an illegal cockfighting event have tragically died after being struck by roosters.
Both men bled to death after being sliced by the blades fixed to terrified roosters.
43-year-old Gande Suryapraksha Rao was reportedly tying the blades to the feet of his rooster before the fight in Kakinada when the bird got spooked by the crowd and stabbed his leg.
He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead due to loss of blood.
Only days later, another spectator from a different event also died after being struck by a knife-wielding rooster.
20-year-old Palma Raju was killed after being hit by the terrified cockerel.
Both men reportedly died due to severe injuries suffered by the birds that became spooked before the fight.
Cockfighting has long been a tradition in the country as police struggle to stop the events.
“Cockfights are the biggest attractions in Godavari and parts of Krishna and Guntur districts during the three-day Sankranti festival,” one attendee said.
Bids on the events can range anywhere from $120 to $6200 but the event has been heavily slammed despite its popularity.
Thousands of roosters brutally die every year during the controversial fights.
