A young man has lost his life while trying to recreate an iconic scene from the movie Titanic.
23-year-old Furkan Ciftci and Mine Dinar were having fun together and drinking alcohol when they decided to try and recreate Jack Dawson’s iconic ‘king of the world’ pose.
According to the reports, the couple stood on the edge of Izmit Marina Pier in Kocaeli, Turkey, when they slipped and fell into the sea below.
After the pair plunged into the water at around 9.15 pm on Sunday, a local fisherman rushed to the site of the accident with his boat.
While Dinar managed to grab one of his fishing roads and get pulled to safety, Ciftci drowned after getting overwhelmed by waves.
After emergency services arrived at the scene, the girl was rushed to the hospital. Two hours later, a diving team found her boyfriend’s body and pulled it out of the sea.
Following a preliminary assessment, it was revealed that the pair crossed the security barrier at the edge of the pier before attempting the dangerous stunt.
The police also confirmed that Dinar has since admitted the couple was drinking alcohol while fishing. She claimed they decided to recreate the Titanic pose thinking it would be fun.
As of this writing, the investigation remains ongoing. It is not clear whether Dinar will face any charges over the incident.
Meanwhile, the authorities have revealed that Ciftci’s autopsy has already been scheduled. Following the autopsy, the 23-year-old’s body will be returned to his family in Duzce where a funeral will be held.
