A man has asked the internet for advice after a huge fight with his girlfriend that stemmed from his close relationship with his mom.
As the 26-year-old man in question revealed in his viral Reddit post, his girlfriend, 24, accused him of being intimate with his mother after the two slept in the same bed at his apartment.
While the man argued that his mother and he are very close and that he doesn’t see any issue with their arrangement, the girlfriend insisted it was “weird” for a grown man to share a bed with his parents.
“My gf (24) and I (26) have been dating for about 4 months now.point 160 | My Mom (49) was coming in town and planned to stay with a friend of hers but the train got delayed so late the friend couldn’t pick her up.point 273 |
I went to pick her up and she asked if she could stay the night at my apartment.point 63 | I said yes of course.point 80 | This all happened when I was hanging out with my gf,” the man wrote.point 137 | 1
Recalling his conversation with his girlfriend, he added: “Conversation went like this:
“Gf: Are you sleeping in the same bed as her?
“Me: Yes.
“Gf: That’s weird. What’re you gonna do have s*x w/ your mom? Don’t you think that’s weird?
“Me: No. I don’t know where this is coming from. It’s just sleeping in the same bed. My Mom and I have never had that type of relationship and it is gross you would suggest that.
“Gf: idk seems weird to me.”
The man went on to say that his family has always been “tight-knit” and that people are often jealous of how close they are with each other. He also insisted he would have no issue with sleeping in the same bed as his sister as well.
“Fast forward to today. She is still sending jabs through messages asking if my mom and I played footsie last night in bed and asking if I was going to change the sheets or if I preferred my mom’s smell on them. I told her the comments are making me uncomfortable and I’d prefer if they stop,” he added.
Asking the internet for advice, the man said he was worried he would have to distance himself from his mother in order to be with his girlfriend.
After requesting help from fellow Redditors, the majority of people sided with the 26-year-old and suggested the girlfriend was in the wrong for making s*xual implications and jokes just because he shared a bed with his mom one time.
“Your gf sounds gross. The fact that she literally asked you if you’re gonna have s*x with your mom..” one person wrote.
“Had a gf like that. Mom’s room was across the hallway from mine. Ex implied disgusting shit. I still hate her 10 years later. For a lot of reasons, not just that shit,” another said.
A third suggested: “I would consider her behavior a red flag.”
