A 54-year-old man who has an ‘intimate relationship’ with his doll has revealed that his real-life girlfriend ‘felt threatened’ by it.
Rod from Australia first bought a doll named Karina in October 2021 after his split from his previous girlfriend.
“Home was very empty. You get lackluster when there’s no stimulation in your life,” he explained to 7News Australia.
Only seven months after he purchased Karina, he met his girlfriend Jenny but she lived more than 5,000km (3,100 miles) away.
The lack of their physical intimacy was only worsened by the lockdown during the pandemic so Rod decided to spend $2,000 on his doll.
He explained that he first saw her as a ‘physical synthetic companion’ but Karina started to open up his emotional side.
“All of a sudden, from emptiness, I had something that required care and maintenance and improvement in a feminine way. It was nice,” Rod said.
Rod regularly dresses Karina up and takes photos of her around his home.
Karina is such a big part of is life that he also introduced her to his mother, who accepted her as a family member.
When he told Jenny about Karina, it led to an argument and she ‘felt threatened.’
He explained that it took some time for Jenny to finally accept Karina as the doll was keeping him company while she was away.
“She saw what I was doing with the photos and the media and just totally accepted it in the end,” Rod said.
Rod was eventually offered a job taking photos for the manufacturer thanks to the success of his Instagram account.
Proud Jenny is very supportive of his talents, as he continued: “She is really happy to support me. She was really excited that I got the factory deal which will open up fields.”
