An angry husband caught his wife cheating on him while he was at work thanks to a baby monitor phone app.
47-year-old Marek Fecko was at work when he accessed the baby monitor he and his wife had bought via an app on his phone.
While his wife managed to turn the monitor around to prevent the camera from capturing her infidelity, she forgot to turn off the sound before getting rowdy with her lover in the bedroom she and her husband shared.
After hearing his wife and her partner moaning under the sheets in his bedroom, Fecko rushed back home and confronted the pair with a knife.
“In the marital bedroom there was a baby monitor. It was connected by way of sound and vision to Mr Fecko’s phone. Within a short time of him leaving the house, his wife and [the lover] were in the marital bedroom,” Prosecutor Tim Evans said after the husband was charged with making threats with a knife.
“She’d turned the baby monitor towards the wall. But she didn’t turn off the sound. Therefore the goings on in the marital bedroom were broadcast to Mr Fecko’s phone.”
The prosecution also argued that the affair was going on with Fecko’s wife and his former co-worker for nearly half a year before the man got enough proof to challenge his wife.
Defending her client was Judith McCullough who revealed that Fecko left his native country of Slovakia more than a decade ago in search of a better life after his relationship fell apart.
“He decided to seek new opportunities and hoped for a better life. While this was not acceptable, it was a very human reaction to a significant degree of provocation. He will never be before the court again,” the defense said.
Sentencing the 47-year-old to 120 hours of unpaid work under an 18-month community order, Judge Nicholas Barker said:
“Quite what response they [the victims] anticipated they would receive from you is open to question. But of course you would be upset and angry at this act of infidelity; after all, you had been married for 11 years and had a family together. [The victim] had been a work colleague of yours.”
