The heartbroken family of Julia Sands has issued a statement as it was confirmed that the human remains discovered at a search site were his.
The 65-year-old actor, known for his roles in ‘A Room With A View,’ ’24,’ ‘Arachnophobia,’ and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen,’ disappeared in January this year while he was on a hike on Mount Baldy in California.
But on June 27, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the heartbreaking news to the PA news agency and stated that the remains were set to be taken to the coroner’s office.
In the months following the actor’s disappearance, search teams struggled because of the harsh conditions in the area.
Earlier this year, California was struck by a series of winter storms, including mudslides in Montecito. Snowfall and flooding.
Authorities had revealed that there had been eight searches to find Sands and that volunteer searcher hours had been more than 50 hours.
After the discovery, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said: “The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on 24 June, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood.
“The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.”
Sands’ heartbroken family said that they would keep the 65-year-old in their prayers, writing: “We are deeply grateful to the search teams and co-ordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”
Sands is remembered as someone with a passion for hiking and outdoors.
