Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, 63, broke down in tears on live television as she blasted rapper Kanye West for his ‘abhorrent’ posts about Jewish people on social media.
Appearing on The Today Show to promote the new installment of her horror series Halloween Ends, the actress welled up as she spoke about reading the tweet.
Wearing aviator eyeglasses and a hot pink pantsuit, she said: “I woke up to this. I burst into tears. I woke up and I burst into tears.”
“’It’s bad enough that fascism is on the rise around the world, but on Twitter, on a portal, as if Jewish people haven’t had it hard enough,” Curtis expressed.
“As if Asian people – I mean Everything, Everywhere All at Once is a movie about an immigrant Asian family, as if Asian people haven’t had enough.
“I mean it’s just abhorrent. It’s abhorrent.”
The star also talked about her new movie, saying it is “about victim shaming, about what happens when a community gets poisoned — and the victim is actually the one who the community piles on.”
Host Hota Kotb interrupted the actress, saying: “I have interviewed you many times, I have never seen your eyes well up in anger like that.”
The Golden Globe winner replied: “Sorry. I literally, I woke up and thought, ‘My grandparents?’ It’s just abhorrent, it’s abhorrent behavior.
“I hope he gets help. I hope his children get help from him. It’s terrible.”
Kotb then said that Kanye’s posts caused reactions online.
“And if we aren’t reacting who are we?” Curtis rhetorically asked. “What does it say about people who aren’t reacting? Who woke up and read that and thought, ‘Oh what are you having for breakfast?
“It’s a big concern.”
