A 42-year-old mother faces felony charges after she allegedly catfished and harassed her teenage daughter online for a year.
Kendra Gail Licari was charged after Beal City School’s investigation into internet bullying claims.
It was in December 2021 when Licari’s daughter made a complaint to the school. According to the New York Post, Licari worked at the school as a girls’ basketball coach but was asked not to return the next season because of some coaching changes.
The complaint about Licari’s daughter and her ex-boyfriend being subjected to cyberbullying was made to the school in December 2021 before it was handed over to law enforcement in January 2022.
Isabella County Prosecutor David Barberi told The Morning Sun that the harassment allegedly started in early 2021.
At the time the complaint was made, Licari was still employed by the school as a basketball coach.
The mother was then named as the internet bully after the FBI discovered that it was her IP address sending hurtful messages to the teen.
Barberi said that his office has since compiled 349 pages of social media and text correspondence implicating the 42-year-old woman, who would hide her location to make it appear like the remarks were coming from wherever the students had traveled to that day.
Her messages even sounded like they were written by a teenager.
Licari has been charged with two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, two counts of stalking a minor, and one count of obstruction of justice, the Morning Sun reported.
When investigators identified Licari as the bully, she made a full confession and was later released on a $5,000 bond.
Using a computer to commit a crime carries up to 10 years in prison, while obstructions of justice and stalking a minor carry five-year penalties.
