A social media influencer tragically died in a head-on collision that took the lives of six people and left two others injured.
Maria Ignacia Celedon, 28, was on her way home from a weekend trip when her taxi and a vehicle with four passengers crashed on a road in the Patagonian city of Punta Arenas in Chile.
Celedon, her driver, and the four people in the other vehicle were all pronounced dead.
Celedon’s boyfriend, Ignacio Carrasco, reportedly suffered a fractured clavicle while her friend, Yang Hsin, had to undergo a surgery.
Carrasco’s sister, Sofia, wrote on social media: “My brother is physically fine, within everything that accident was, but as a family we are in mourning and it is a horrible shame.
“I hope you can have my brother in your thoughts so that he recovers well and Maru so that he is in peace as he deserves.”
Before her tragic death, Celedon took to Instagram and shared a selfie while she was getting ready to go to the airport after visiting Torres del Paine National Park.
Hsin also shared photos on social media, sharing how thrilled she was for visiting the park that is surrounded by rivers, glaciers, grasslands, lakes and mountains.
“We came to record some things at the shur (south). It was my dream to come one day and out of nowhere they sent us here for the weekend!!” she wrote.
“I was able to taste it a little, I hope to return (but in the summer).”
Celedon replied: “What a nice experience and how lucky to live it together. We have to come back but without leaving the hotel hahaha.”
Expogame, the country’s top gaming convention, said in a heartbreaking statement: “We will miss you very much, beautiful Maru.
“Your energy and your smile will remain forever in our memories. Thank you for all your dedication and for having trusted our team.”
