A homeless man was seen making a final bed for his loyal Jack Russell only hours before he passed away outside a branch of Costa.
41-year-old Jonathan Ellerington was known for always having a faithful pooch named Teddy by his side.
While he is a regular in Hull city center, he also had a loving family and a partner.
Surveillance footage showed him losing consciousness on December 17, 2021, only days before Christmas.
According to reports, his death was ruled drug-related.
Ellerington left behind a daughter who he had been trying to get rid of his addiction for, seven siblings, and his beloved dog which is now being cared for by his family.
Hours before he died, several people tried to check on him. Two strangers even left some food for him.
But the following morning, Jon was found dead on the pavement.
An inquest heard that John had tried to end his addiction so he could finally see his daughter again.
Even though he was always seen sleeping on the streets, he had a home in Hull where he lived with his partner. He would take his Jack Russell to the city center and end up sleeping on the pavement.
After his death, a post-mortem examination found that he had lethal levels of heroin in his body, along with evidence of sedatives, methadone and painkillers.
Jon’s grieving sister said in a statement: “Jon did get off the drugs from time to time and would go cold turkey, but it would never last. He actually got clean for two years because he wanted to stay in touch with his daughter. During that time, he managed to get work at Wren Kitchens and Crown Paints.”
She added: “He would also look after my boys sometimes. He was such a loveable guy and was always seen as the fun uncle. He was also a bit of a joker.”
