A groom whose wife was killed only moments after they got married is now suing the alleged driver and the bars who served her alcoholic beverages.
Aric Hutchinson, 36, and Samantha Hutchinson, 34, tied the knot on April 28. But what was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives suddenly turned into a nightmare after they were hit by a vehicle while leaving their reception in South Carolina.
The impact instantly killed Samantha and Aric was left with severe injuries.
The alleged drunk driver was identified as Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25. According to CNN, she was arrested and charged with DUI involving death and reckless homicide.
Police reported that she was driving at 65mph (105km/h) and caused the couple’s golf cart to roll multiple times.
The grieving husband has since filed a case in Charleston against Komoroski and accused her of ‘bar hopping’ before the incident.
The lawsuit stated that Komoroski visited El Gallo Bar and Grill near Daniel Island before driving to Folly Beach where she bar-hopped to different places including Snapper Jack, Drop In, and The Crab Shack.
Aric’s attorney, Danny Dalton, said: “The state grants restaurants and bars a license for the privilege to serve alcohol, and with that privilege comes a responsibility to the community to serve patrons responsibly and to deny service to individuals who are visibly intoxicated.
“There are still many details we don’t know about the sequence of events leading up to the tragic crash, but by filing a lawsuit, we can begin the legal discovery process that allows us to get the answers that Samantha’s family deserves.”
Komoroski was reportedly booked on su*cide watch at Charleston County jail after she told an officer that she wanted to end her life.
