A 3-year-old girl woke up at her own funeral after doctors declared her dead following a stomach bug.
Camila Roxana Martinez Mendoza had just turned three and was about to enter kindergarten.
However, she was wrongfully declared dead after doctors at the Salinas de Hildalgo Community in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, allegedly misdiagnosed her.
Her mother, Mary Jane Mendoza, said her daughter fell ill with fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.
But when her parents took her back to the hospital, she was pronounced dead.
According to reports, Camila was first taken to a pediatrician in Villa de Ramos, northwest of San Luis Potosi.
The parents were then told to take their daughter to the community hospital where she received treatment for dehydration.
“They gave her 30 drops of paracetamol and told me that my daughter was fine, that I could take her home,” she said.
But only hours later, the youngster’s condition worsened and she was taken back to the same hospital where she was declared dead.
“Now they wanted to connect her to an IV drip, they took a long time connect her to oxygen, they couldn’t do it because they couldn’t find her veins, finally a nurse managed it,” Mendoza said.
During her daughter’s funeral, grandmother Felicitas Martinez noticed that the glass of the coffin had fogged up.
They called the nurse who said that her vital signs showed that she had not died.
An ambulance took her back to the same hospital where she was declared dead for the second time.
“She lasted several hours there in the box, but there I feel that it is the fault of the doctor who gave her to me presumed dead,” the mother said.
The case is still being investigated.
