A 4-year-old girl tragically died alongside her mother, 27, after being hit by an Audi driver that was reportedly racing a BMW, witnesses said.
Lena Czepczor and her mother, Justyne Hulboj, were walking on the pavement when a white Audi TTRS hit them and collided with the wall of a car dealership.
Eyewitnesses said that the Audi was ‘revving’ its engine only moments before the fatal crash that occurred on Scott Hall Road, Leeds.
Staff of the car dealership were shocked to find the body of the 4-year-old girl.
“I heard the Audi TT revving his engine at the red lights,” a tire fitter who saw the collision said. “Then he flew off down the road. I did not see the crash. But then all hell broke loose.”
Another also recalled: “The driver was at the lights revving. He set off and 200 yards down the road he struck the two people on the pavement.”
An officer who attended the scene of the crash told shocked bystanders that it had been the worst incident he had ever witnessed.
According to reports, three people have been arrested in connection with the crash.
Two men aged 34 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of two offences of causing death by dangerous driving.
Another person, a 65-year-old woman, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but she has been released on bail while the two men remain in custody.
Cards, teddy bears, candles and flowers were left at the scene of the crash on Tuesday afternoon, with one note saying: “Thinking of all the family at this sad time. Such a tragic accident. Fly high.”
Another message read: “Yesterday heaven gained two angels. Two beautiful souls taken so tragically. May you both fly free in internal love.”
Others paid tribute to the mother and her daughter on Facebook, with one writing: “Very heart-breaking. The little girl goes to my daughter’s school and sometimes she goes to breakfast club. She [her daughter] has been so sad about this.”
